So, he attributes being able to time a ball, coming out of a machine in order to hit it, with growing up during the riots in Chi-town? Interesting.

by standing closer to the machine you do, in a way, reduce the reaction time. However, its a pitching machine which is visual and predictable. You can see the ball dropping down into the wheels. The machine also attempts to throw the ball in the same place every pitch. Also by moving closer you make the location of the pitch even more predictable. By shortening the swing to a quick chopping motion, you eliminate several more variables but sacrifice power. Imagine walking right up to the machine, and holding the bat directly in front of the hole and bunting every pitch. He's halfway there. Yes it is impressive, but not as impressive as one might think, and I'm sure 100's or 1000's of people could acquire this skill with some practice.

If I were taking swings on a pitching machine as many times as this guy, I'd probably be doing the same thing. Ask him how long it took before he was doing what he's doing now? Logic tells you that the first few times, he probably whiffed a lot. After getting to know the machines and the typical trajectory, the little clicks and sounds it makes right before the ball comes out, etc...All these factors assist him with his proficiency. He's also done it so often that he has it timed out. Lets be honest, his bat speed isn't like looking at lightning.

The old adage is that if a player can't hit a fastball, he's not going to make it to the show. No matter the trajectory, any MLB player can hit a fastball, no matter how hard it's thrown. This guy has made a gimmick out of it and if someone else had the time to take thousands of pitches from the machine like he has, I have little doubt that we'd see the similar results.

That said, I am still very impressed. Now, lets see the machine set up to throw a 92 MPH slider and see if he can hit that.

                                                                      • Robot Says hi

Ok before I say this, if you don’t believe me that is ok. Here is why this video is wrong. In terms of “hitting” all you have to do it hit it, no form, just hit it. But when you add baseball to it, you need form and must recognize it before you hit it. If you look closely, Stanley really is starting his swing before the ball comes out. Hitting a 250 mph is really impossible if you actually think about it it really is hard. A 100 mph is already fast enough and making it 1.669x faster is harder. Plus the ball is going in the same direction so it is pretty easy to hit

He knows when the balls come out of that ball machine, how fast, and when he needs to swing. He is no athlete, just a guy who has gone to the same machine too many times. Put him against a MLB pitcher. Watch him miss.
