@Up From The Depths I still think they will team up after all, despite the director claiming there will be a definite winner...maybe they use mecha godzilla to have Kong attacking the real Godzilla etc. ...i'll be fine with anything as long as Godzilla doesnt actually lose against King Kong, then i will be furious lol

I also reached a point growing up to where I stopped telling people I was into Godzilla. In elementary school I was constantly teased and made fun of for loving Godzilla. I would bring my figures to play with for when we had inside recess and no matter how much I tried to explain the monsters to my peers they just wouldn't get it and even my best friends would tell me that Godzilla was just dumb. By the time I got into 6th grade Godzilla faded to the back of my mind and it wouldn't be until I got into high school and the hype around G 2014 started that the fan within me would be reborn. Granted, I don't fully regret letting Godzilla fade during middle school as it allowed me to discover other nerdy things I'm into (superheroes, Dragon Ball, comic books) but I do wish I didn't hide it from people. I wish I hadn't become so embarrassed of it after being told constantly Godzilla was just dumb fake schlock and seeing G 2014 in IMAX 3D opening weekend not only made me feel like a 6 year old again but made me proud to be a G-fan. Now 5 years later I don't just not hide it, I flaunt it. I own several shirts and a hat and wear them with pride and let my college roommates know that I'm watching Godzilla by letting his roar blast through my speaker if I watch a movie.

It's always been an uphill battle for us and with how KOTM was critically received I'll admit the hill does feel a little steeper even if most people who saw it enjoyed it. Hopefully GvK makes up for it and I hope that some of that Avengers hype that spread around my campus for Infinity War and Endgame will be reciprocated for this film. Either way, what a time to be a G-fan.

Man, this is the third time watching/listening to this video and as silly as it sounds I still get a little teary-eyed listening to a story which runs so parallel to my own. Growing up, like you I was OBSESSED with Dinosaurs. Watching old claymation and stop motion films on TCM or AMC was my idea of a Saturday Night. I still remember AMC's GodzillaThon '95 (i believe it was 95). I remember my parents taking shifts recording and watching the entire marathon with me. I still have those old VHS tapes today. My mom is unfortunately not with us anymore, but my dad and I still talk about those late nights to this day. Those are memories that have lasted me 20+ years at this point. Like you, as I got older I became ashamed of my love for Godzilla and all his rubber-suited friends and foes. So I buried it until I was in my late 20s when all the drama and need for popularity didn't matter anymore. 2014 is when I started to become REALLY excited about Godzilla again, and aside from the occasional eye roll from my wife, or smart-ass comment from a friend it's been really fun! I've even been able to make new G-Fans of my own, starting with my nephew. His current favorite is actually Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster. I'm not sure why, but we all started somewhere right? There's no better time than the present to be a Godzilla fan, and feel like Hollywood, Toho, and the culture knows it. So here's to many more years of the G-Man. Thanks again for this channel. It's one of my favorites. Take care and God Bless.

Godzilla KOTM was PERFECT in my opinion, being the long time Godzilla fan i am, Ive felt the same way... although i didn't find the big G-man on my own, my dad showed me a DVD of Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla ll. I LOVED IT, and i bought 2 more DVD's, Godzilla vs Mothra, and 1998 Godzilla. I loved watching those films, and i started watching more, and more, and more.......... and i think you get the point, but i fell in love with this guy, we were inseparable........ just like you, until i became a teenager... i almost FORGOT about this big lug, and i hate to say that, at the time i became more interested in Marvel movies, and weird Netflix shows. Time went by, and Godzilla started to become just another thing i was gonna shove in the attic, until Godzilla 2014 came out. I saw that trailer, and YEARS of nostalgia and joy came back, i saw it, loved it, and it stuck with me for a while... but again... i was a teenager, and i thought other people would think i was weird. None of my friends saw an epic dinosaur that fired atomic breath, all they saw was another weird, cheesy Japanese monster movie. Some of my friends would call Godzilla USELESS, DISGUSTING... and that hurt me... so i started to keep my returned love for the big G quiet. It was hard, especially after seeing SHIN Godzilla, and those other 3 anime Godzilla movies we don't really need to talk about, because i was just getting more exited with every movie! and then GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS came out with a trailer that made me scream... im serious... i screamed like a girl... i used my calendar to count the friggin days until that movie came out, and when it finally hit theaters... i loved it... i was exited the whole time, i couldn't wipe the smile off my face, because i knew that he was back! and now, whenever i hear my friends call Godzilla just another weird Japanese monster... i call them a disgrace... and i leave the room.............................................................

ONE MORE THING!!!!!!!! when you said that some other bois were saying that 1998 Godzilla was more powerful than Japanese Gojira......... WHAT THE $%#&?! How? Why? What? Zilla was put into Final wars, JUST TO GET DESTROYED BY GODZILLA!!!!!!!!!! And if i remember correctly, Zilla (1998 Godzilla) was destroyed by a simple BOMB... Godzilla, on the other hand, was hit by a friggin meteor... NOT A SCRATCH!!! In KOTM, Godzilla survives the OXYGEN DESTROYER... you know, the thing that killed Gojira in the original 1954 film? Heck, Godzilla can be a living magnet, he doesnt give a crap about little tanks shooting him... Godzilla can even... fly......... never mind that, its just too obvious that Godzilla is more powerful than Zilla... BY A LOT... im done now.

He deserves to be shown on the big screen, again, and again, and again, and I will never get tired of seeing him tower over buildings, that terrifying (yet kind of adorably grumpy) face staring down at whatever beast threatens his territory this time.
and it started my hunt for a mothra plushie

My first Godzilla film was when one day, I was browsing Netflix and found Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero. I watched it and fell in love, my experience with anime also galvanized my love for the series that I watched... and I love Godzilla.

This movie however captivated me in a way that i cant describe nearly as well as you do. 7 times and 6 of those time i went by myself. i really wish i could have seen it an 8th time before the local theaters stopped showing it.

i love your content and your pure enthusiasm for Godzilla. my broher and I have also been watching these films since the early 80s as children with indescribable wonder.

Second, now that I've seen King of the Monsters a couple of times lemme just say I loved it. It's the movie I've wanted to see for over 30 years.
I came to the series in much the same way you did: an early obsession with dinosaurs. Hell, 1985 was even the first one I rented from Video Kingdom. In retrospect, that's certainly not the most engaging Godzilla movie but I was mesmerized whenever Godzilla was on screen. That's also probably why I retain a strong preference for the Hesei Godzilla's appearance. That would be one of the changes I'd make to the current iteration. More of a dinosaur, less of a defensive tackle lol.
All that said, part of what made King of the Monsters so special to me is it was like a greatest hits of all the things I love about these movies. The characterizations of the monsters were great, I rather enjoyed the human plot, the visual effects were jaw dropping and the monster fights MY GOD they were great.
It seemed like maybe they were hinting at a bit of a heel turn for Godzilla in the next movie and I'd welcome that. Biggest issue I've had with the monsterverse Godzilla is two movies in a row now he's practically marched into battle carrying the American flag and high fived the military. Now, it made a lot more sense story wise in the second movie than it did the first. But I'd like to see Godzilla as at the very least threatening to humanity rather than the big brother dynamic of these last 2 movies. Kong seems like a more natural babyface than Godzilla so I hope as these movies progress (and I certainly hope China keeps coming out for them so the series continues) Godzilla evolves into something closer to the existential threat to humanity he's been in some of his stronger depictions. That's just my taste, of course.
Sorry for the novel, keep up the great work.

When I got my first approaching to a computer the very first thing I searched was, of course, Godzilla, there were incredible videos of movies I had never seen, fighting monsters I didn't know, and it was my biggest sad hours when I readed there was a film named "Final wars" wich was meant to be the last movie ever made, so here I started to drawn myself away from Godzilla. But when I heard about the 2014 film a lot of memories of me as a little kid watching Godzilla came so suddenly I cried of joy, and that moment isn't even close to when a friend told me about after credits scene in Kong's movie, I saw it and recognized Ghidorah, Mothra and Rodan it got me hyped as I had never been before, I knew this was going to be the ultimate experience of a lifetime and now I'm looking forward to its release on BR and DVD

It's not like other fandoms out there, we had to really fight to consume these movies when we got started, they weren't handed to us on television every saturday evening or three times a year on the big screen. I love talking to Godzilla fans and I've desperately tried to convert many of my friends and family to the genre, and hearing your story just made me smile so much :))
