I find the video unhelpful. Talking down, pressure and telling me what to do is not the way I get motivated - I benefit more from a gentler, more accepting approach. After all, it's not the successes that make us happy. Wellbeing matters the most, maybe not in corporate culture, maybe not in America, maybe not among the motivational coaches, but at the end of the day, you need to be happy for yourself and not for all these people.

This woman lives her truth. About 15 years ago, I was sitting in 28 Degrees, a bar in Boston that is no longer in existence. I was alone, drinking and watching a guy across the bar. A guy who was WAY out of my league. I mean, strikingly handsome and perfect in every way. I’d resigned myself to an evening of drinks, some food, and a nice walk home... alone. And then in walked Mel. She asked to sit at the seat beside me. As you can imagine, before too long, we were chatting. She was waiting on her husband and friends who’d been to the Red Sox game, and before you know it, we were best buds. As you can imagine, it didn’t take long before she’d sussed out my interest in the guy across the bar. The hilarity of the moment is that it IS this TEDx video. Why don’t you think you could get him? Why is he out of your league? What's holding you back? Go talk to him! Ask him to come over! etc… etc… and before you know it said “perfect guy” was sitting next to us at the bar and Mel was conveniently moving on to meet her husband and friends. Her truth is simple; the reality is real. Although the perfect guy didn’t last past a few months, it did establish a confidence in me that I still carry today. Thank you, Mel. You are amazing!
