You also have to look at the amount of influence they had on the Hip-hop genre and other well know artists.
They inspired Rage Against The Machine and Linkin Park

Kimo Man Well, if you’re not gonna go by numbers, how are you evaluating them? Longevity? They’ve had a 30 year career- a longer, and more successful career than anyone on that list. I can only surmise that they’re not your cup of tea-fine, but you have yet to back up your C rating with anything substantial.

Damian Odess-Gillett Numbers really don’t have anything to do with it. Especially in Hip Hop. As a matter of fact the top sellers of hip hop are always dumbed down rappers groomed for a mainstream audience and I promise you those albums were bought in the suburbs not that it’s wrong but they can like The Beastie boys but doesn’t mean Kool Moe D is gonna give you an A cus you outsold everyone 😆

Kimo Man, By what measure? The album that the author was evaluating sold 10,000,000 (the author’s own album from the same year, sold 300,000).

It's true, MCA's death wasn't a bleesing, but the gift of his presence for 47 years will always be appreciated.
Thanks MCA, Mike D and Adrock for so many memories...but above all for being our unforgettable and fun Beastie Boys 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

The idea that you have the authority to grade Public Enemy at all is ridiculous.

The fact that he gave a higher grade to Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince than to Public Enemy and the Beastie Boys means I think he was threatened or turned off by them because they were very successful and also very different from his style. Perhaps he didn't appreciate how those two bands were able to attract a wider fan base than him and some of the other more traditional hip hop artists.
